I chart a lot of things. Two of them are the total short interest on the NYSE and the NYSE Specialist Shorts. Have been charting them for years from data in Barron's. Apparently the NYSE is no longer providing this data to Barron's. Barron's had a link to the NYSE website - but it wasn't a link to this data. I looked through the NYSE site - and couldn't find the data anywhere. Is this data available on this website (or anywhere else)? Thanks for any help. Robyn |

You question has several parts and requires several answers.
1. Yes you can now find the daily total for NYSE Specialist Short Sales data at http://www.nyxdata.com/nysedata/default.aspx?tabid=627 Look under the Round-Lot Activity Section of the webpage.
2. As for the Total Short Interest for the day, well that I haven't found yet. However, the same webpage does provide the total short sales from the SDOT system, which represents the largest proportion of the NYSE's trading volume if not all of it. This SDOT short sales total can be found under the Volume Summary of the webpage cited above.
Perhaps someone else could elaborate on the SDOT's total volume. Does anyone know what proportion of trading volume is executed on the SDOT system? Does it represent all trading activity? |
