In section 5.6 of the spec, it says that "Heartbeat messages will be sent out with the same sequence number as the most recent message that was sent". So it is a duplicate sequence number to a data packet that is being sent. In the D.3 flowchart, sequence number checking is included in the recommended method for processing heartbeat messages. This seems to conflict with the statement in section 5.6. Also, since packets can be reordered, isn't it possible for this to interfere with receiving and processing a data packet? i.e. the heartbeat message is processed first, the looked-for sequence number is incremented, the data packet arrives with the same sequence number and is dropped. Which section documents the correct behavior? Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks, Christine |
