We have discovered that the Arcabook multicast feeds (A and B) are not in sync, by as much as 10 seconds or more. The difficult aspect of this is that some groups on A are faster then B, and vs versa. In any given time interval, A may be faster on some groups, and B on others. Arbitrating the feeds is not possible since they are so out of whack.

NYSE recently send a big notice on converting TCP to Multicast, but be warned, these multicast feeds are not ready for prime time.

Any response on this NYSE? I am starting to develop to the MCast feed currently, so it will take me a couple of weeks before I can compare the latency between the TCP/IP version and the MCAST version.

Mike, you are absolutely correct that the A and B ArcaBook multicast feeds are not in sync yet. There is a release that will go into production at the end of January that will sync the two feeds.

Even though they are not in sync, is it true that for each multicast group, either the primary or the backup feed will be at least as fast as the current TCP ARCABook?

Is there any instance currently where the MCAST feed ( both primary/backup ) is slower than TCP?

Or will I have to wait for the end of January to implement this into production?

The multicast feed will be atleast as fast as the current TCP ArcaBook during normal capacity but the mutlicast feed will always be faster than the TCP/IP feed as message rates go higher. We have not seen any instance where the Multicast feed is slower than the TCP feed, so far its always been faster.

Ariel.... can you confirm if/when the release to fix this problem is going in?
